Haima – Road maintenance and construction projects worth more than RO120mn are under way in Al Wusta governorate as part of efforts to improve connectivity and road safety, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has said.
The works include maintenance of 1,244km of asphalt roads at a cost of about RO6mn, aimed at preserving road quality and improving safety for motorists.
The ministry is also implementing two major sections of Sultan Said bin Taimur Road.
Work is continuing on a 58km section north of Haima at a cost of RO44mn. The project has an implementation period of 24 months.
A further 124.5km section of Sultan Said bin Taimur Road, being developed under Phase Three, is being implemented at a cost of RO70mn. The project has reached 23% completion and is scheduled to be completed within three years.
The ministry said the projects form part of plans to improve the efficiency and sustainability of Al Wusta’s road network and strengthen links between the governorate’s wilayats.
The upgrades are also expected to support economic and development activity by facilitating the movement of people and goods while improving traffic flow and safety across the governorate.
