Profits of MSX-listed firms increase 12% to RO867mn

Muscat – The combined net profits of public joint-stock companies listed on the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) rose 12% year-on-year to RO866.98mn in the second quarter of 2026, according to data reported by the Oman News Agency.

The report said that 87% of the companies that disclosed their second-quarter financial results reported profits during the period, highlighting the broad-based strength of corporate earnings.

Financial results showed profit growth across three of the four main sectors listed on the exchange. The industrial sector recorded the strongest growth, with profits surging 51%, followed by the financial sector with a 13% increase and the investment and real estate funds sector with 11% growth. In contrast, the services sector reported a 4% decline in profits.

The financial sector remained the largest contributor to overall corporate earnings, posting net profits of RO392mn in the second quarter of 2026, up from RO346mn in the corresponding period of 2025, an increase of RO46mn.

The services sector recorded net profits of RO297mn, compared with RO309mn a year earlier. Meanwhile, industrial sector profits climbed to RO172mn from RO114mn in the second quarter of 2025, representing both the highest growth rate and the largest increase in profit value among all sectors.

Investment and real estate funds reported combined profits of around RO6mn, compared with RO5mn in the same period last year.

At the company level, OQ Exploration and Production (OQEP) remained the most profitable listed company, reporting net earnings of RO196.87mn. Bank Muscat ranked second with RO137.49mn in net profit, followed by Oman India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO) with RO80.22mn. Sohar International Bank was fourth with profits of RO53mn, while OQ Basic Industries ranked fifth with net earnings of RO43.30mn.

The results underline the continued dominance of the financial and services sectors in terms of overall profit contribution, while the industrial sector delivered the strongest earnings growth, reflecting improving performance across manufacturing and industrial activities.

The figures also highlight the diversity of profit sources among listed companies and varying performance across different sectors of the economy.

Overall, the listed companies maintained strong profitability, supported by resilient performances across key sectors and a broad base of profitable firms. With 87% of reporting companies posting profits, the latest earnings season represents one of the strongest corporate performances recorded on the MSX in recent years.
