Muscat – The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has warned businesses, online sellers and social media users against marketing or selling unlicensed products through websites and digital platforms, stressing that such practices violate Omani regulations and pose potential risks to public health and consumer safety.

In a statement, the ministry said it is closely monitoring online marketplaces and social media channels where products are promoted directly to consumers without the necessary approvals from the competent authorities.

MoCIIP said that the warning covers a wide range of products, particularly unlicensed medicines, pharmaceutical substances, medical preparations, nutritional supplements and herbal products that have not received official approval for sale in Oman.

According to the ministry, these products may be counterfeit, adulterated, contaminated or past their expiry dates. In many cases, these may not have undergone the required quality, safety and efficacy assessments, exposing consumers to serious health risks.

The ministry emphasised that promoting or selling such products, whether through websites, online stores or social media platforms, is considered a clear breach of applicable laws and regulations. Individuals and businesses found violating the rules may face legal action and penalties under the sultanate’s consumer protection and commercial legislation.

MoCIIP urged traders, influencers and online retailers to ensure that all products offered for sale have obtained the required licences and approvals before being marketed to the public. It also encouraged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing products online and to verify that goods originate from authorised suppliers and licensed outlets. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers and maintaining a safe commercial environment by working with authorities to monitor e-commerce and take action against illegal activities.
