Doha – The former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, has passed away at the age of 74. The announcement was made on Sunday, July 12, by the Amiri Diwan, which serves as the top government body in Qatar.

Sheikh Hamad reigned from 1995 until his historic abdication in 2013. Following his decision to step down, he transferred the throne to his fourth son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who currently serves as the Emir of Qatar. His leadership period was marked by significant transformation and development within the nation, leaving a lasting impact on Qatar’s modern history.
