Muscat – The Public Prosecution has issued a formal reminder regarding the legal consequences of violating individual privacy. Under Article 36/1 of the Law on Combating Cybercrimes, as established by Royal Decree No. 61/2026, it is strictly prohibited to engage in activities such as eavesdropping, intercepting, recording, transmitting, broadcasting, or disclosing private conversations and communications.
Individuals found guilty of these offences face significant legal penalties, which include imprisonment for up to three years, a fine of RO5000, or both. This measure underscores the legal necessity of respecting privacy boundaries in all digital and personal interactions.
