Salalah– The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has called on all individuals and companies involved in adventure tourism during the Dhofar Khareef 2026 to strictly adhere to the laws and regulations governing the sector, emphasising the importance of ensuring visitor safety and maintaining high standards across all activities.
In a statement, the ministry stressed that the organisation and operation of adventure tourism activities of all types are subject to the provisions of Oman’s Tourism Law and its executive regulations. It noted that adventure activities may only be conducted after obtaining the necessary permits and official approvals from the ministry.
The ministry underscored that compliance with the licensing requirements is essential to guarantee safe, organised and sustainable tourism experiences, particularly during the khareef season, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to Dhofar every year.
Adventure tourism has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments of Oman’s tourism sector, with activities such as mountain hiking, cave exploration, ziplining, camping and off-road excursions gaining popularity among both domestic and international visitors. Dhofar’s unique landscape, cooler climate and scenic mountain ranges make it one of the country’s leading destinations for outdoor and adventure experiences.
MHT reiterated that operating adventure tourism activities without obtaining the required licences constitutes a violation of the law and could expose offenders to legal accountability in accordance with the applicable regulations.
The ministry’s reminder comes as preparations intensify for the khareef season, one of Oman’s most significant tourism periods, which is expected to witness a surge in visitor numbers and increased demand for outdoor recreational activities.
Officials said adherence to the regulatory framework is crucial for safeguarding visitors, protecting the environment and enhancing Oman’s reputation as a responsible and sustainable adventure tourism destination. The ministry also encouraged tourists to participate only in activities organised by licensed operators to ensure their safety and enjoy a secure and memorable khareef experience in Dhofar.
