31 May 2026 MAFWR announces agri-investment projects in Ibri By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Ibri – As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen food security and enhance agricultural sustainability in Oman, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has announced two new agricultural investment projects in wilayat Ibri in Dhahirah governorate.

The projects reflect the ministry’s strategy to expand modern agricultural production, encourage private sector investment, and increase the local production of high-value crops and seedlings using advanced technologies suited to Oman’s environmental conditions.

The first project involves the establishment of a tissue culture laboratory for the production of seedlings and saplings in al Ghuwayl area of Ibri. The project will be developed on a 10-acre plot and is expected to contribute to improving the quality and availability of agricultural seedlings in the local market. Tissue culture technology is considered one of the most advanced methods in modern agriculture, enabling rapid production of disease-free and high-quality plants while supporting sustainable farming practices.

The second project focuses on the cultivation of leafy vegetables in greenhouses and open fields in the same area. Also spanning 10 acres, the project aims to boost domestic production of fresh vegetables and reduce dependence on imports. The use of protected agriculture and greenhouse farming is expected to improve productivity, conserve water resources, and ensure year-round crop availability.

According to the ministry, both projects will be offered under a three-year usufruct period, with applications opening on May 18 and closing on June 7, 2026.

The initiatives come as Oman continues to intensify efforts to achieve greater self-sufficiency in food production and strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector. Over recent years, the ministry has launched several programmes supporting modern farming technologies, smart irrigation systems, and agricultural investment opportunities across different governorates.

Experts say such projects play a key role in enhancing national food security, creating employment opportunities, and supporting rural economic development in line with Oman Vision 2040.
