Muscat – As people prepare to travel and celebrate Eid Al Adha with family and friends, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has urged citizens and residents to prioritise safety and responsible behaviour to ensure the holiday remains a time of joy and peace across the sultanate.

In a statement issued ahead of the Eid holiday, the ROP extended its greetings and best wishes to all, expressing hope for a blessed occasion filled with happiness, security and safe journeys.

The police called on motorists to exercise extra caution during the holiday period, which typically witnesses increased traffic movement on highways and internal roads.

Drivers were advised to adhere to traffic regulations, avoid speeding and reckless driving, remain focused behind the wheel, and pay particular attention to pedestrians in residential neighbourhoods, markets and public spaces.

The ROP also warned against unsafe practices that often accompany festive celebrations, including celebratory gunfire and the use of firecrackers and fireworks. It stressed that such acts pose serious dangers to both individuals and property and can result in tragic accidents.

According to the police, fireworks and firecrackers may cause severe burns, permanent disfigurement, eye injuries and hearing damage, while also increasing the risk of fires and panic in crowded areas. The ROP reiterated that the possession and use of fireworks, as well as the discharge of firearms without authorisation, are offences punishable under Omani law.

Parents were urged to closely supervise children during the Eid holiday and prevent them from playing in unsafe locations or handling hazardous materials.

The ROP stressed that preserving the spirit of Eid requires collective responsibility and public cooperation. It added that awareness, vigilance and adherence to safety measures are essential to reducing accidents and ensuring a safe environment in which families can celebrate the occasion with reassurance, stability and peace of mind.
