EA releases rescued birds of prey after rehabilitation in Rustaq

6 Apr 2026 EA releases rare birds in Rustaq

Rustaq – Environment Authority (EA) in South Batinah, represented by the Barka Biodiversity Centre, continues to implement specialised programmes to return wildlife to their natural habitats. As part of ongoing national efforts to protect wildlife and enhance ecological balance, the centre successfully released several birds of prey in the Jamma area of Rustaq on Monday. These birds were returned to the wild following the completion of comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation stages conducted according to the highest veterinary and environmental standards.

The group of released birds included the Egyptian Vulture, the Lappet-faced Vulture, the Greater Spotted Eagle, and the Steppe Eagle. Each bird underwent intensive care programmes designed to restore their natural fitness and ensure their ability to adapt and survive in their original environments. This initiative underscores the commitment of the authorities to maintaining biodiversity and supporting the sustainability of ecosystems across the Sultanate of Oman.

The Barka Biodiversity Centre plays a pivotal role in receiving exhausted or injured birds through citizen initiatives or official reports, reflecting a growing community awareness regarding wildlife conservation. The centre operates in close coordination with environmental departments across various governorates to integrate national efforts in protecting natural resources. This latest release is part of a continuous series of initiatives aimed at wildlife restoration and the long-term preservation of Oman’s unique natural heritage.
