Suhar – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) launched activities of Food Safety Week 2026 in Suhar on Sunday under the theme ‘Food Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility’.

The event was held under the patronage of H E Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, with wide participation of government and private sector entities.

Organised by MAFWR through its Food Safety and Quality Centre, the event will continue till April 11 and aims to strengthen the sultanate’s food safety system, raise public awareness of best health practices and quality standards, and promote a culture of compliance with health regulations to safeguard consumer wellbeing.

The week will feature a variety of activities, including a forum, a marathon and an accompanying exhibition, in addition to workshops and awareness programmes that will be held across several governorates. These aim to enhance national cooperation and reinforce integrated efforts to ensure the safety and quality of food throughout the sultanate.

The event on Sunday also witnessed the launch of the visual identity of Food Safety Week, as well as the unveiling of the magazine Together, Food is Safe, which aims to raise public awareness and promote food safety concepts among various segments of society.

Officials said the week-long programme will also provide a platform for experts, specialists and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest developments in food safety systems, inspection mechanisms and modern technologies used in monitoring food quality. The activities highlight the importance of adopting preventive measures across the food supply chain – from production and processing to transportation, storage and retail – while encouraging community participation and institutional collaboration to maintain high standards of food safety in the sultanate.
