Sur – A new extension at Sur Referral Hospital in South Sharqiyah was inaugurated on Wednesday, enhancing the hospital’s capacity to deliver specialised care and meet growing medical demand in the governorate.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Dr Mohammed bin Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, and attended by H E Dr Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.
The Ministry of Health said the project aims to enhance the efficiency and readiness of healthcare institutions and provide integrated medical services in line with established quality standards.

Implemented through a partnership between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Al Jisr Charitable Foundation, the project underscores the role of community collaboration in supporting national development and sustaining healthcare services.
Dr Yahya bin Humaid Al Masrouri, Director of Sur Hospital, said the ministry continues to advance healthcare services in line with international benchmarks. He said the expansion strengthens service delivery and supports a decentralised healthcare system capable of meeting population needs.
Al Masrouri added that community partnerships remain a key pillar in supporting the sector, commending Al Jisr Charitable Foundation for funding the dialysis and intensive care units.
Yousef bin Yaqoub Amboali, Director General of Projects and Engineering Services at MoH, outlined the project’s development stages and components. He said the facility was designed according to modern medical planning standards to improve operational efficiency and patient care.
The new building comprises 58 beds across two floors. The ground floor includes a 28-bed dialysis unit with two treatment rooms and four isolation rooms, in addition to administrative and support facilities.
The first floor houses a 30-bed intensive care unit, including an eight-bed paediatric ICU, a 12-bed adult ICU and a 10-bed cardiac care unit, expanding the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised critical care.
Following the ceremony, the patron and attendees toured the facility and reviewed its equipment and services.
The building has received national and international recognition for sustainable design and energy efficiency. It has been awarded LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), placing it among the region’s environmentally sustainable healthcare facilities.
