NCEM confirms multiple routes reopened after closure

24 Mar 2026 NCEM confirms multiple road closures across northern governorates By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The National Committee for Emergency Management has released a formal update regarding the status of the primary transport network across the northern governorates of the Sultanate. Following the significant impact of the Al Massarat low-pressure system, which had previously rendered several critical routes impassable, authorities have now confirmed that the road network is fully operational.

Previously, heavy rainfall and unstable atmospheric conditions necessitated the mandatory closure of several key links to ensure the protection of life and property. In the North Batinah Governorate, these closures included the Wadi Bani Umar road, the Sohar to Haibi road, and the Sultan Qaboos Road within the Wilayat of Shinas. Similar restrictions were implemented in the Musandam Governorate on the route connecting Khasab and Al Khalidiya, as well as the vital link between Yanqul and Sohar in the Dhahirah Governorate.

Following a period of sustained monitoring by emergency services and technical teams, all affected routes have been cleared and reopened for public use. The committee has indicated that the infrastructure is now capable of supporting regular traffic flow. While the roads are fully functional, officials continue to encourage all road users to remain vigilant and adhere to standard safety protocols while travelling through the region.
