Muscat – Customs authorities at Muscat International Airport intercepted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of psychotropic substances into the country. During a routine security screening, officers discovered more than 4,900 illegal tablets concealed within the personal luggage of two passengers arriving at the terminal.

The individuals had deliberately hidden the contraband amongst their belongings in an effort to evade detection. However, the vigilance of the Royal Oman Police and airport customs officials ensured the illicit substances were seized before they could enter the local market. Following the discovery, both suspects were apprehended by the authorities.

The Royal Oman Police confirmed that the necessary legal proceedings are currently being finalised against the two travellers.
