16 Mar 2026 Unauthorised use of firearms and fireworks By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a public notification regarding the legal consequences of discharging firearms and lighting fireworks without official authorisation. According to Article 25 of the Arms and Ammunition Law, any individual who discharges a firearm for reasons other than a genuine request for distress assistance, or who ignites fireworks and explosives in residential areas or public roads, faces a fine not exceeding RO200. This regulation is designed to preserve public safety and prevent dangerous incidents within the community.

Authorities have further clarified that if such actions occur during social gatherings or celebrations without a valid police permit, the legal penalties become significantly more severe. In these specific circumstances, offenders may be subject to a prison sentence of up to three months or a financial penalty reaching RO300. The national police force continues to urge all citizens and residents to adhere strictly to these safety laws to ensure that festive occasions remain safe for all participants and do not result in legal prosecution or physical harm.
