Muscat – Oman is intensifying efforts to expand bowling across sports clubs, with the sport now practised in 18 clubs nationwide, according to Said bin Rashid al Qutbi, Chairman of Oman Bowling Committee.

Qutbi said the committee continues to promote bowling through technical and organisational programmes aimed at broadening participation and raising competitive standards at local and international levels.

He said around 250 players from different age groups are currently registered in the committee’s programmes. The committee organised 15 official domestic tournaments, alongside several promotional events designed to identify and develop emerging talent.

At the international level, Oman’s national teams have competed in three Asian championships in the past two years, including ranking tournaments sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation. These appearances have delivered positive results, most notably Musab al Adawi’s title in the youth category at the Singapore International Championship. Adawi also won the Muscat Nights International Bowling Championship in 2025.

To strengthen technical performance, the committee organised a training camp this year for the junior national team at the Bowling Athletes’ Training Centre in Malaysia, Qutbi informed.

Looking ahead, the committee has scheduled ten local championships covering senior, youth and junior categories. The General League Bowling Championship of the sultanate will remain the flagship domestic event.

According to Qutbi, expanding bowling within sports clubs remains a key priority, with plans to increase the number of participating clubs beyond the current 18. This will be supported through technical and administrative assistance, as well as joint introductory and training programmes.

He pointed to infrastructure as a key challenge, highlighting the need for more accredited bowling alleys and a broader player base. He described support from relevant authorities and the private sector as essential to achieving sustained growth and improving competitiveness in the sport.
