Ottawa, Canada – A small community in northeastern British Columbia has been devastated by a mass shooting that claimed ten lives, including that of the suspect. The incident occurred at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, a facility serving approximately 160 students. Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to reports of an active shooter at roughly 1:20 pm, discovering a scene of significant casualties upon their arrival.
Authorities confirmed that six victims were found deceased inside the school building, while a seventh individual succumbed to their injuries while being transported to hospital. During a subsequent sweep of the area, investigators located two additional victims at a nearby residence believed to be linked to the perpetrator. The suspect, described in an initial emergency alert as a female wearing a dress with brown hair, was found dead inside the school from what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury.
In addition to the fatalities, at least 25 individuals were treated for various injuries at a local medical centre, with two victims airlifted to hospital in critical condition. Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier David Eby have both expressed profound grief, describing the event as an unimaginable tragedy for Canada. While the RCMP believe they have identified the shooter, they have not yet released a name or a suspected motive as the investigation continues.
