Fees and futures – International schools in Muscat

1 Feb 2026 Fees and futures - International schools in Muscat By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Education continues to account for a significant share of household spending, particularly for families opting for international curricula. With Muscat positioning itself as a family-friendly city, the affordability of international schools compared with other cities in the region remains a concern for both Omanis and expatriates. How affordable are international schools in Muscat compared to the region? Here is what Muscat Daily readers said –

Salim al Harthy, Private sector employee

Education does take a significant portion of a family’s income, but compared to other Gulf cities, international schools in Muscat remain relatively affordable. Fees are lower than in Dubai or Doha, while the quality of education is comparable. This balance makes Muscat attractive for both locals and expatriates raising families.

International school fees in Muscat are still reasonable when viewed regionally. While costs have increased, they are not as aggressive as in neighbouring countries. Many schools also offer flexible payment plans and sibling discounts, which helps families manage long-term educational expenses more effectively.

Salim al Balushi, Entrepreneur From a regional perspective, Muscat offers good value in international education. Families receive strong academic standards without the extremely high fees seen elsewhere in the GCC. That said, affordability also depends on income growth and inflation in the country which is actually maintained here.

Aisha al Zadjali, Private sector employee

Education still consumes a large share of family income. Compared to major regional hubs, international schooling in Muscat is affordable and less commercialised. But of course, these are on higher side compared to regular  schools.

Rajesh Kumar, Finance manager

As an expatriate, I find international schools in Muscat quite expensive. I have no idea about other GCC states, but here with my salary it is expensive. Such schools are for those with high income. I feel that a school, no matter where, must motivate a student. We need good human beings with good education, irrespective of where they come from.

Anjali Sharma, Homemaker

International education is never cheap, but Muscat is kinder on family budgets compared to the wider region. The fee levels are realistic, and many schools provide strong academic support without constant extra charges. This makes Muscat a comfortable choice for expatriate families prioritising education.
