Muscat – Omani small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will receive support to expand exports to regional and global markets under a new partnership between the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday at the Permanent Mission of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in Geneva. The signing was followed by a meeting between Pamela Coke-Hamilton, Executive Director of ITC, and H E Idris Abdul Rahman al Khanjari, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Oman to the UN in Geneva.
The initiative aligns with Oman’s priorities of economic diversification, export development and private sector-led growth under Vision 2040. It aims to strengthen the export readiness of Omani businesses, improve product packaging and facilitate access to regional and international markets.
H E Khanjari highlighted the importance of the agreement in enhancing the competitiveness of national exports and enabling the private sector to integrate into regional and global value chains in line with Vision 2040.
The partnership also covers cooperation in areas including SME competitiveness, digital trade and e-commerce, development of sector-specific value chains aligned with national priorities, and economic diplomacy.
ITC is the joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations, assisting SMEs in developing and transition economies to become more competitive in global markets.
