Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) is moving ahead with the Amerat tunnel and road project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity between the wilayats of Amerat and Dima W’attayeen, a senior official said on Monday.
H E Khamis Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport in MTCIT, said the project is among several strategic road works being implemented under the government’s investment programme to improve the national transport network.
Speaking at the ministry’s annual media meeting, H E Shamakhi said the project has been put out to tender and that bids are currently being received and reviewed.

He also said lighting works on Batinah Expressway will be completed once the remaining supplementary works are finalised.
Separately, H E Shamakhi said the ministry has floated a tender for lighting works on Sultan Turki bin Saeed Road, with operations expected to begin in the first half of 2026.
The undersecretary added that the ministry is preparing to implement a new transport project linked to Al Sahwa Tower and its surrounding areas, extending from the Al Sahwa Roundabout towards Rusayl.
He informed that the project is intended to address traffic movement and improve road connectivity in one of Muscat’s busiest areas, which serves as a key gateway linking several parts of the capital.
