Dhofar – The steering committee dedicated to developing innovative solutions for the control of seasonal mosquitoes, held its periodic meeting under the chairmanship of Dr Ahmed bin Mohsen al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality. The session, which included representatives from various relevant government entities, focused on reviewing the latest research developments concerning local mosquito species following extensive field studies conducted during the 2025 Dhofar Khareef season. Members discussed scientific recommendations aimed at enhancing the efficiency of current projects and refining the technical framework for pest management.
A significant portion of the meeting was devoted to a proposal for biological control of the Aedes mosquito, evaluating its implementation mechanism and proposed executive stages as a promising component of an integrated vector management system. Furthermore, the committee explored the organisation of a specialised workshop to showcase ongoing efforts in vector control and to strengthen cooperation between partner organisations. These initiatives reflect Dhofar Municipality’s commitment to advancing environmental health programmes and safeguarding public health through modern, sustainable strategies that improve the overall quality of life in the Governorate.
