Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued an urgent alert regarding a sophisticated phishing scheme targeting the public. Criminals are reportedly using a fraudulent website designed to closely resemble the official portal of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) to entrap unsuspecting victims.
In a statement, ROP said this deceptive platform is being utilised to harvest sensitive personal and banking information, which the perpetrators subsequently use to facilitate the unauthorised withdrawal of funds from victims’ bank accounts. In response to these findings, the Royal Oman Police has reiterated the necessity for all individuals to verify the authenticity of electronic sites before engaging with them. Furthermore, the authorities have clarified that the Consumer Protection Authority does not request bank card details or private financial data during the provision of its official services.
