Muscat – Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a formal weather alert regarding anticipated heavy rainfall across several regions of the Sultanate of Oman. The warning is effective from Thursday, December 18 at 6:00 pm until Saturday. Meteorological reports indicate that Musandam governorate will experience the most intense conditions, with heavy thunderstorms and rainfall amounts ranging between 20 mm and 60 mm. Other areas, including Muscat, Buraimi, Dhahirah, Batinah, and Dakhiliyah, are expected to receive between 10 mm and 40 mm of rain.

These weather systems are likely to be accompanied by strong downdraft winds reaching speeds of up to 35 knots and a significant reduction in horizontal visibility. Furthermore, sea states along the Musandam and Oman Sea coasts are predicted to rise between 2.0 and 3.5 metres. The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre has strongly advised the public to exercise maximum caution, stay clear of low-lying areas, and avoid crossing wadis during flash flood conditions. Residents are also urged to refrain from sailing during this period to ensure their safety.
