Muscat – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Oman from December 17 to 18, marking his second official visit to the sultanate, India’s Ministry of External Affairs has stated.

Oman will be the final leg of Modi’s three-nation tour, which begins in Jordan (December 15 to 16) followed by Ethiopia.

India and Oman share a long-standing strategic partnership built on historical ties, trade links and strong people-to-people relations. The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries and follows the state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to India in December 2023.

According to the Indian ministry, the visit will provide an opportunity for the two sides to comprehensively review bilateral relations, including cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defence, security, technology, agriculture and culture. The leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

During his visit to Jordan, Modi will hold talks with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein to review bilateral relations and discuss regional developments. The visit marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan. ‘It presents an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral engagement, explore new avenues of cooperation and reaffirm our commitment to regional peace, security and stability,’ the ministry stated.

In Ethiopia, Modi will hold wide-ranging discussions with Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali on all aspects of India–Ethiopia ties. This will be his first visit to the country. The ministry said the visit would reaffirm the shared commitment of both nations, as partners in the Global South, to deepen friendship and expand bilateral cooperation.
