Muscat – North Sharqiyah governorate has invited bids for the construction of the strategic Wushag Road, a project aimed at improving road connectivity and reducing travel time between key wilayats in the region.

An official at the Office of the Governor said the proposed road will link the wilayats of Ibra and Dema wa al Taien, noting that the 25km route is expected to ease pressure on existing roads and provide a safer and more direct passage for daily commuters.

The road is planned to connect several residential areas and serve as a corridor for commercial movement, particularly agricultural and handicraft products that form a key part of the governorate’s local economy. Officials expect the new route to facilitate smoother transport and support economic activity across the region.

The project is also expected to improve access to natural and heritage sites, including wadis, mountain areas and historic villages. According to the official, better connectivity is likely to encourage more visitors and attract investment in tourism-related services, including rest facilities and eco-friendly camp sites.

Qualified contractors have been invited to submit bids by December 29. The project forms part of the governorate’s broader development plan to enhance essential services and support long-term economic growth across North Sharqiyah.
