5 Nov 2025 Bilaspur train accident claims 11 lives, 20 injured

Chattisgarh – A tragic collision occurred on Tuesday afternoon near Bilaspur station in Chhattisgarh, India, when a MEMU passenger train rear-ended a stationary goods train around 4 p.m. Officials say at least 11 people were killed and 20 others injured in the crash.

Preliminary investigations suggest the passenger train overshot a red signal and struck the goods train at a speed of 60–70 km/h, causing one of its coaches to mount the freight wagon with severe force.

Rescue operations began immediately, with injured passengers taken to Apollo Hospital and the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur. A high-level enquiry has been ordered by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to determine the cause and recommend corrective actions.

Railway authorities announced compensation for victims’ families and the injured. The accident underscores ongoing safety and signalling challenges on India’s rail network.
