Muscat – The Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation Committee of the Majlis A’Shura on Monday met H E Abdullah al Ambusaidi, Undersecretary for Education at the Ministry of Education, to review the progress of the Tenth Five-Year Development Plan and discuss future strategies for the sector.
Officials from the ministry presented an overview of school education performance, highlighting investment incentives in transportation, logistics and educational technology. They said Oman’s legal framework and national vision make it an attractive destination for international education investments and partnerships aimed at improving quality and human capital development.
The committee reviewed programmes of the Educational Measurement and Evaluation Center from 2020 to 2025, including performance indicators and implementation efficiency. Discussions also covered upgrades to the electronic education system and efforts to align digital transformation with national education goals.
Initial plans for the Eleventh Five-Year Plan were outlined, focusing on curriculum development, expanded digital learning and the use of modern technologies in classrooms. The ministry said its digital transformation strategy includes introducing artificial intelligence to improve learning outcomes and adapt to global technological shifts.
Members discussed the Executive Regulation of the Education Law issued by Royal Decree No 31/2023, which aims to strengthen institutional performance and align with Oman Vision 2040’s goals of innovation and quality education.
Committee members stressed the need to apply artificial intelligence in curricula, assessments and school administration to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. They called for more support for talented students, solutions for learning gaps in evening schools and the expansion of pre-school education, particularly through improved teacher training and curriculum standards.
Recommendations also included improving safety in school transportation, accelerating Omanisation in the education workforce and updating curricula to meet labour market needs and future skills. Members said education must foster creativity, innovation and competitiveness to prepare students for a changing world.
The committee commended the ministry’s efforts and affirmed its commitment to cooperation with relevant institutions to achieve Vision 2040 goals and build a future-ready generation.
