Muscat – Ministry of Social Development has signed a cooperation agreement with Oman Broadband Company to support vocational training within its aftercare programme for juvenile delinquents.
Signed on Wednesday, the agreement is part of joint efforts to enhance rehabilitation and social empowerment for groups under the ministry’s care. It was signed by Maani bint Abdullah al Busaidi, Director General of Family Development, and Sultan bin Ahmed al Wahaibi, CEO of Oman Broadband.
Under the agreement, Oman Broadband will fund and implement a series of vocational training workshops targeting young offenders enrolled in aftercare programmes. The initiative aims to build work ethics, discipline and self-reliance, while enabling participants to identify their skills and prepare for employment.
Around 50 young men and women will take part in the programme, which includes training in programming, artificial intelligence, automotive and motorcycle maintenance, and interior design workshops for young women. Participants will hone practical skills aligned with labour market needs and receive certificates that qualify them for job opportunities.
Maani said the agreement reflects the ministry’s commitment to enhancing aftercare services by adopting training programmes that support rehabilitation and improve employability. She added that partnerships with the private sector help create a supportive environment for young people to pursue productive career paths and integrate positively into society.
Wahaibi said the agreement highlights the private sector’s role in supporting development programmes. He noted that empowering juvenile delinquents with vocational skills is an investment in a stable future and helps opening doors to work opportunities.
