November 18 Street set for major expansion

28 Oct 2025 Al Mouj, November 18 roads set for major expansion to ease traffic By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Authority for Projects, Tenders and Local Content, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, has awarded a major contract to expand Al Mouj Road and a connected stretch of November 18 Street, bolstering the ongoing drive to enhance traffic flow across the capital.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that the project will introduce a third lane in each direction from the Airport Bridge to Ishraq Roundabout.

The upgrade includes construction of a new bridge and a four-lane signal junction at Al Mouj Roundabout. Al Bahja Roundabout will undergo a significant redesign through installation of an overpass as well as an underpass to separate traffic streams and alleviate peak-hour bottlenecks.

Ishraq Roundabout will be transformed into a three-lane signal intersection to maintain uninterrupted movement towards Seeb Beach. The plans also feature a third lane between Al Mouj Roundabout and Mawaleh Bridge, and two new underpasses that will enhance access from November 18 Street.

Officials anticipate that the improvements will ease pressure on one of Muscat’s busiest arterial corridors while supporting surrounding commercial, economic and tourism development.

The ministry also informed that final award procedures are in progress for expansion works on the Muscat Expressway as part of a broader national infrastructure programme designed to keep pace with rapid urban growth.
