Muscat – Muscat Municipality will celebrate Omani Tree Day, observed annually on October 31, with a green initiative aimed at raising environmental awareness and expanding the capital’s vegetation cover through free distribution of saplings across five key locations in Muscat governorate.
A senior official at Muscat Municipality stated that the initiative reflects the civic body’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and improving the quality of life for residents. He noted that expanding urban greenery plays a critical role in reducing heat emissions, enhancing air quality and enriching the aesthetic appeal of the city, while also encouraging the community to adopt eco-friendly practices that conserve natural resources.
Sapling distribution activities will be held on October 30, from 8am to 11am at three locations: Ghubra Beach in Bausher, Al Barkat Street in Seeb and Al Amerat Street in Amerat. The initiative will continue on October 31, with free sapling distribution at City Centre Seeb from 10am to 12pm, followed by a final stop at Al Khalili Majlis on Al Mouj Street at 4:30pm.
The official added that the sites have been strategically selected to engage the largest number of citizens and residents, encouraging them to plant and care for their saplings as active partners in creating a healthier urban environment.
He further emphasised that the initiative serves as a strong awareness message on the importance of preserving and enhancing the city’s green cover as part of national efforts to combat climate change.
Muscat Municipality hopes that the initiative will reinforce the significance of Omani Tree Day and inspire the community to play a greater role in building a greener, more sustainable future for Muscat.
