26 Oct 2025 Private sector to operate Samail Fort under MHT partnership

Samail – Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has signed an agreement with Rawafed Samail International Company to manage and operate Samail Fort in Dakhliyah governorate.

The agreement aims to maximise the economic and cultural value of heritage landmarks and enhance their contribution to national growth. Samail Fort is among the most significant historical sites in the governorate, reflecting Oman’s deep-rooted heritage and architectural legacy.

According to MHT, the project will help boost tourism by attracting visitors from within and outside the sultanate while strengthening the role of the private sector in managing and operating heritage sites.

It will also create investment opportunities in tourism, culture, entertainment and crafts, in addition to generating direct and indirect employment for the local community. The company plans to utilise farms surrounding the fort as part of its site activation strategy.

Once operational, the fort is expected to contribute to the national economy by increasing tourism spending, encouraging entrepreneurship in hospitality and related services, and reinforcing Samail’s position as a key cultural and tourist destination on Oman’s tourism map.
