Muscat – The Ministry of Social Development has announced the establishment of the Oman Psychology Association under ministerial decision No 361/2025. The decision, issued in accordance with the Civil Society Law (Royal Decree No 14/2000), seeks to strengthen awareness of psychological services and support the professional development of practitioners in the sultanate.
The association will focus on promoting mental health awareness and emphasising the importance of psychological services in society. It will also highlight the contributions of Omani professionals to behavioural and psychological sciences.
The entity is expected to encourage research, publications, training programmes, and conferences in psychology. It will provide scientific consultations to individuals, government bodies, and private institutions. The association will further work to ensure that psychological practice in Oman adheres to internationally recognised standards.
A board of directors consisting of five to 12 members will oversee the association’s operations. Board members will serve two-year terms, with the option of one re-election. Founding members will appoint the first board during the inaugural general assembly.
The association’s funding will come from membership fees, approved donations, revenues from activities, government support, and other resources authorised by the Ministry of Social Development.
