Salalah – Dhofar Municipality is implementing two major infrastructure projects in Salalah as part of its efforts to enhance urban resilience and flood protection in the governorate.

The projects – a rainwater drainage network for residential areas and internal roads, and a flood barrier to protect wadis from erosion – together exceed RO6mn in total cost.

Dr Abdullah Mohammed Bawain, Director General of Projects and Technical Affairs, Dhofar Municipality, said the rainwater drainage network project, valued at about RO4mn, has reached 76% completion and is scheduled to be finished by April 2026.

He said the project will improve rainwater drainage across several residential neighbourhoods and internal roads in Salalah, reducing surface water accumulation and ensuring smoother traffic movement during heavy rainfall.

The second project, aimed at protecting wadis from flood erosion, is being implemented at an estimated cost of RO2.6mn. It includes concrete protection works in Wadi Sahalnoot and Wadi Thamrin in Salalah. The project is 54% complete and expected to be finished in the second half of 2026.

Bawain said these projects reflect Dhofar Municipality’s continued efforts to strengthen infrastructure, reduce flood risks, and promote sustainable urban development to improve the quality of life in the governorate.
