Muscat – Omani freediver Omar Abdullah al Ghailani continues to make waves on the global stage, proving that determination and perseverance know no depth or limit. He has once again raised the sultanate’s flag high at two of the world’s most prestigious freediving championships with remarkable feats.
At the 35th AIDA Freediving World Championship 2025 held in Limassol, Cyprus from September 20 to October 1, Ghailani claimed a silver and two bronze medals, securing a second place overall among 125 elite athletes from 54 countries.
Just days earlier, he made a mark at the CMAS Freediving World Championship 2025 in Greece held from September 5 to 18, where he won a silver medal and finished second overall among 140 competitors representing 51 nations.
These remarkable back-to-back achievements not only mark new milestones in Ghailani’s career but are also a source of immense pride for Oman and the wider Arab world. His success reflects the resilience and ambition of a true champion – one who finds triumph in the deep.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Ghailani expressed gratitude and pride over his latest accomplishments. “I am proud of this big win and of setting national and continental records. I hope these achievements inspire Omani youth to follow their dreams and believe that anything is possible with hard work,” he said.
Reflecting on the challenges faced during the competitions, he added, “It wasn’t easy – the cold water and strong waves made every dive a battle. But the challenges only made the victories more meaningful.”

One of the most demanding forms of underwater sport, freediving requires divers to rely solely on their breath, testing both physical endurance and mental focus. Preparing for such championships calls for exceptional discipline and commitment.
Ghailani dedicates three hours a day to freediving practice, complemented by rigorous gym training to strengthen his lungs and stamina. “I thank everyone who supported me through these challenging months of preparation,” he said. “Their encouragement helped me stay focused and strong.”
With several national and continental records now to his name, Ghailani remains determined to continue representing Oman on the international stage and to keep raising the sultanate’s flag across the world’s oceans.
