Muscat – The subcommittee for emergency management and governance for climate hazards in Muscat governorate held a coordination meeting on Tuesday to discuss preparations for launching the fourth phase of a national campaign to raise awareness on climate hazards and the rising sea.
Led by the National Committee for Emergency Management through the National Emergency Management Centre, the campaign is being implemented in cooperation with Muscat Governor’s Office and several government and community entities. It aims to raise public awareness on weather-related risks, promote a culture of prevention, and strengthen early preparedness and response mechanisms.
Participants reviewed the progress achieved in other governorates and discussed measures to ensure effective implementation in Muscat. The meeting also emphasised the need for unified institutional and community efforts to raise awareness of the dangers of extreme weather events, improve preparedness and ensure a coordinated response during emergencies, in line with national objectives to protect lives, property and public safety.
The campaign will be rolled out across the wilayats of Muscat, targeting decision-makers, local communities and educational institutions. It will include awareness seminars, dialogue sessions, field exercises and an exhibition, alongside outreach activities to deliver key messages effectively.
Muscat Governor’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national initiatives that enhance institutional readiness, ensure rapid and effective response, and contribute to community safety, service continuity and a resilient national emergency management system.
