5 Oct 2025 MAFWR bans poultry, livestock imports from Portugal, Egypt By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has issued two decisions imposing temporary bans on import of poultry and related products from Portugal and import of livestock from Egypt, as part of precautionary veterinary health measures.

Ministerial Decision No 235/2025 bans the import of live animals and products, derivatives and offal of these from Beheira governorate in Egypt. The decision follows recommendations from the competent veterinary authority and is in line with the Veterinary Quarantine Law (Royal Decree No 45/2004) and its executive regulations.

Under Ministerial Decision No 236/2025, the import of live birds and products, derivatives and offal of these from Santarém Province in Portugal has been prohibited citing similar precautionary health measures.

The ministry said the bans will remain in effect until the health situations in the affected regions are resolved and official notice issued lifting the restrictions. It added that an exception applies to products and derivatives that have undergone heat treatment or processing consistent with international standards set by the World Organisation for Animal Health.
