‘Together We Can Ban Cancer’ event to highlight incidence of breast cancer

2 Oct 2025

Muscat – The number of patients with breast cancer in the country has risen by 119 percent, according to a report published by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and an initiative to spread awareness and help the society safeguard themselves against cancer will be held on October 3 at the College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS).

Titled ‘Together We Can Ban Cancer,’ organised by Barkat Al Noor Clinic in association with the ‘Wings of Women’s World’ in support of Oman Cancer Association (OCA), the evening will showcase enlightenment sessions as part of awareness along with recognition of personalities who contributed in spreading awareness.

‘Together  We Can BAN Cancer’ is an event to highlight the importance of regular check up and early detection, and empasise on the 3 Ps, say,

Prevention, Protection & Periodic Examination.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is a time to create awareness, honour the millions of lives affected by breast cancer and reaffirm our global commitment to equitable access to care and improved survival for all. This year, the theme of the awareness is ‘Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters’.

Speaking to the media, Dr Rajyashree Narayanankutty, an award-winning Breast and Perianal Diseases Specialist and General Surgeon, specialising in Breast Cancer diagnosis in Oman for over 33 years at Barakath Al Noor clinic said that it is important every woman stay aware of breast cancer and conduct self examination.

“If there is anything unusual, one must immediately follow up with a doctor. It is important that all the family members go through counseling. Most women hide the symptoms out of fear or concern for the family. Early detection means overcoming cancer.”

Faiza al Sulti, Senior Nurse at BAN clinic added that Barkat Al Noor Clinic maintains good links with the medical community of Oman for the patients to do their follow up immediately.

“But most of the ladies  come much later, and they are diagnosed with stage 3 or stage 4. This is mainly due to fear or lack of awareness,” pointed out Faiza.

Dr Rajyashree, who is dedicated to spreading cancer awareness said healthy lifestyle and regular check are key to Prevention and Early detection are the most important  factors. “Do not be afraid there is treatment and cure,” she urged.

“Although I began my career as a general Surgeon, it was Hon Yuther al Rawahy, a 4th grade cancer survivor and founder of OCA, who is my role model in  initiating this mission to spread breast cancer awareness. So Barkath Al Noor  dedicates all the events and programmes to spread awareness to the community. So, we are extending our support to OCA,” adds Dr Raaji.

Wings of Women’s World (WWW) is a global non-profit organisation founded by women for women, dedicated to empowering and uplifting women around the world.
