Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) has confirmed that a case of poisoning caused by contaminated bottled water in the wilayat of Suwaiq resulted in the death of an expatriate woman and left an Omani man in critical condition. The man also died shortly post the incident.

According to the ROP, the incident on September 29 was linked to bottled water imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran under the commercial brand ‘Uranus Star’. Laboratory analysis of samples taken by the authorities confirmed that the water was contaminated.

In response, relevant authorities launched an immediate withdrawal of the product from local markets and enforced precautionary measures to safeguard public health.

Pending further investigation, the government has suspended the import of all bottled water from Iran.

The ROP has urged citizens and residents not to consume bottled water bearing the brand name ‘Uranus Star’ and to promptly report any suspected cases of contamination.
