New York – Germany, France, and Britain, the so-called European Troika, in the nuclear agreement with Iran, announced the re-activation of UN sanctions on Tehran after the expiration of the so-called “snapback” mechanism. They linked this measure to Iran’s failure to fulfill its obligations related to its nuclear program.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of the three countries called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to refrain from any escalatory action and return to compliance with its legally binding safeguards obligations, stressing that the reimposition of UN sanctions is not the end of diplomacy.
The three countries said they would continue working with all parties to reach a new diplomatic solution to ensure that Iran never obtains nuclear weapons, and they emphasized their focus on rapidly implementing the reimposed restrictions.
It’s worth noting that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasised that the European measure has no legal basis and is politically and diplomatically dangerous.
