Buraimi – The Buraimi branch of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) inaugurated the third edition of the Mahdah Honey and Dates Forum on Wednesday in cooperation with government and private entities. The forum will run till September 28.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy.

This year’s edition aims to showcase the natural and economic potential of Buraimi, particularly in the honey and date sectors. It also aims to boost trade relations between local producers and importers, while fostering cooperation between public and private sector institutions and civil society organisations to develop promising economic activities in the governorate.

Zaher bin Mohammed al Kaabi, Chairman of the OCCI branch in Buraimi, said the forum serves as an economic platform for the honey and date sectors, while reflecting the governorate’s deep cultural heritage. “It underscores the steady drive to strengthen and expand private sector activity across various fields, especially agriculture, given its vital economic and sustenance value,” he said.

He added that the forum showcases honey and date production in Oman and reaffirms OCCI’s commitment to supporting various economic sectors and promoting trade at both local and international levels.

On the sidelines of the event, a date auction competition was held with more than 30 contestants competing in five categories to sell Khalas, Fardh, Nighal and some rare varieties. The contest aimed to highlight distinguished date types, provide a platform for farmers and producers, and enhance the economic value of local dates.

The third edition of the forum has attracted nearly 100 exhibitors. A range of accompanying activities have been lined up, including specialised workshops and a visit to a museum that showcases the production journey from hive and palm to finished product.
