Break the barrier, share the care

21 Sep 2025 Disability support services in Oman By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – What service or support would make the biggest difference in the lives of people with disabilities in Oman? Here is what Muscat Daily readers said –

Muna Basheer al Zadjali, Private sector employee

Every person with a disability in Oman has dreams and potential. They deserve more than support; they deserve opportunity, dignity and belonging. They need better access to schools, jobs and healthcare. Expanding rehabilitation centres and providing free assistive devices can make daily life easier. When society removes barriers and embraces diversity, every person can shine and play a vital role in national growth.

Fatma al Harthy, Social worker
People with disabilities in Oman need greater access to inclusive education and skill development programmes. If schools and training centres are designed with accessibility in mind, these individuals can become self-reliant. Equal opportunities in education will create confidence and open doors for employment, which is true empowerment.

Salim al Maawali, Businessman

Employment opportunities are crucial. Many talented people with disabilities in Oman are overlooked by businesses. Companies should receive incentives to hire them. Having inclusive transport and digital job platforms will also help connect them with employers. Dignity comes through meaningful work and economic independence.

Ahmed Khan, Private sector employee

Accessible healthcare and rehabilitation services are vital. Families often struggle with finding affordable therapy or specialised medical support for children with disabilities. Mobile health units, subsidised therapy centres and counselling services could make a huge difference.

Rahul Menon, Private sector employee

Technology can transform lives. Accessible apps, e-learning tools and smart mobility devices would greatly help people with disabilities in Oman. If the government and private sector collaborate on tech-driven initiatives, it will reduce barriers. Digital inclusion ensures equal participation.

Moosa al Balushi, Private sector employee

As a person with a disability, I encountered several challenges during my studies – from enrolling in university to securing a bank loan to purchasing a car. There is still a lack of adequate services for people with disabilities. We need more designated parking spaces in malls and greater access to recreational activities, which are currently limited. Most importantly, there must be more focus on increasing employment opportunities to help us build stable and independent lives.
