Muscat – Environment Authority (EA) has announced an invitation for expressions of interest from investors and companies to participate in the development and management of ecotourism activities at Barka Biodiversity Centre in South Batinah.

One of Oman’s flagship environmental initiatives, the centre plays a critical role in conservation of endangered species and reintroduction of wildlife into their natural habitat. The centre reflects the sultanate’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.

Spread over 33,000sqm, the Barka Biodiversity Centre serves as an integrated platform for rescue, rehabilitation and breeding of local wildlife. It has state-of-the-art facilities, including a fully equipped veterinary clinic and specialised enclosures for breeding and isolation purposes.

Since its inception, the centre has successfully bred several species such as the Arabian gazelle, oryx and sand gazelle. It has also rehabilitated birds of prey, including the Egyptian vulture, bald eagle and falcons.

In addition to its conservation efforts, the centre supports scientific research and educational outreach programmes, while also offering veterinary care for injured and endangered wild animals.

Through this new investment opportunity, EA aims to enhance the centre’s role in ecotourism, furthering the goals of wildlife conservation while engaging the private sector in sustainable environmental initiatives.

Interested investors are encouraged to submit proposals outlining their vision and capabilities. The investment and management model will be finalised at a later stage in coordination with selected partners.

The deadline for submission of expressions of interest is October 16.
