Tianjin, China – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the BRICS Summit in 2026, which India will host. The invitation was extended during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin.
In response, President Xi expressed his gratitude and pledged China’s full support for India’s BRICS Presidency, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Their meeting also reaffirmed the importance of solid India–China ties, with both leaders describing the nations as “development partners, not rivals.” National interest and strategic autonomy were emphasized, with Modi stating their relationship should not be viewed through “a third country lens.”
This diplomatic outreach marks a significant step in promoting unity and cooperation within the BRICS framework, as well as strengthening bilateral ties amid global geopolitical shifts.
