Muscat – The Royal Hospital, under the Ministry of Health, has inaugurated the sultanate’s first molecular imaging service using the locally produced radioactive isotope 18F-PSMA to detect prostate tumours.
The initiative, driven by Omani expertise, marks a significant advancement in nuclear medicine and aligns with national efforts to localise high-end medical technologies. The service aims to enhance diagnostic accuracy, reduce patient costs, and shorten waiting times.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the hospital’s nuclear medicine department achieved a 92.5% rating for its advanced systems, including modern imaging devices, radiation protection innovations, and continuous staff training.
This step reflects Oman’s growing capability in adopting cutting-edge healthcare technologies to improve patient outcomes.
