Muscat – The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rainfall across several governorates in Oman from Thursday, 21 August, to early Friday morning, 22 August 2025.
According to the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center, heavy rainfall may be accompanied by thundershowers and strong downdraft winds over Al Wusta, southern parts of South Sharqiyah , and North Sharqiyah. Rainfall is expected to range from 25 to 60 mm in these areas, while Dakhliyah and Dhahirah governorates may see 20 to 40 mm. This could lead to the flow of streams and wadis.
Additional rainfall of 10 to 25 mm may occur over the Hajar mountains, deserts, and eastern parts of Dhofar, potentially causing minor stream flows.
The CAA advises residents and travellers to take precautions during heavy rain, avoid crossing wadis (flash floods), stay away from low-lying areas, and avoid sailing. Alerts also include strong winds (15–45 knots / 28–83 km/h), rough coastal seas (3–4 meters), and reduced horizontal visibility during heavy rain and dust storms.
Authorities will update the alert in 24 hours if necessary.
