Muscat – Muscat University has approved plans to develop a new campus in Madinat al Irfan, marking a major step in its growth as a private higher education institution in the sultanate.

The decision was taken at the Board of Directors’ fourth meeting of the year, chaired by Khalil bin Abdullah al Khonji, Chairman of the board, and attended by members and Vice-Chancellor Prof Khamis bin Hamad al Yahyai.

The new campus will be designed as a modern, smart and sustainable environment that serves students and faculty, while also standing as a landmark in Muscat governorate. The board approved a list of companies to be invited to bid for the project, describing it as a strategic priority for the next phase of the university’s development.

During the meeting, the board also reviewed preparations for the start of the upcoming academic year (2025/2026), with emphasis on providing the necessary facilities to ensure a smooth beginning for new students.

On financial performance, members expressed satisfaction with the university’s continuous improvement and efficiency. The board further approved setting up a training academy aimed at boosting community outreach and supporting the development of national talent.

The meeting discussed efforts to expand the network of companies and institutions that host student training, highlighting the significant growth achieved in this area and its positive impact on both academic performance and the university’s standing.

In his concluding remarks, Khonji said Muscat University is entering a new phase of development that combines investment in infrastructure with focus on educational quality.

“The achievements and steady increase in student numbers require us to accelerate our work to meet the needs of the next stage,” he said. “Our investment in education and modern facilities is an investment in Oman’s future, aligned with the country’s vision to build skills that meet the requirements of both local and global labour markets.”

The board also praised the development of academic programmes and reaffirmed its commitment to specialisations linked to international professional certifications, strengthening graduate readiness for employment.
