Salalah – A grand one-day celebration of India’s Independence Day was held with full participation of the Indian community and the presence of Omani dignitaries, reflecting the spirit of unity and nationality.
The day commenced at 8:30 a.m. with a blood donation camp organized at the Indian Social Club (ISC) premises in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The initiative witnessed wholehearted participation from Indian expatriates as well as Omani youth, many of whom marked the national day by donating blood – a noble gesture of saving lives.
This was followed by a free health check-up and awareness camp conducted by Life Line Hospital, Salalah. More than 100 people benefited from consultations, examinations, and specialist advice, thanks to the tireless efforts of doctors, nurses, and the hospital administration.
The highlight of the day was the patriotic cultural program, inaugurated by chief guest Mr. Hakim Mohammed Saleh Al Makhzoom, Director of Partnership and Community Development, Ministry of Social Development, Dhofar Governorate. In his address, he congratulated the Indian diaspora and extended warm wishes.
Mr. Rakesh Jha, President of ISC Salalah, expressed gratitude to the gathering of over 4,000 community members and acknowledged the efforts of volunteers, the management committee, Life Line Hospital, and the Ministry of Health staff. He also presented copies of a book chronicling the history of ISC, while sharing words of appreciation from the Indian Embassy.
The cultural segment was a vibrant showcase of India’s diversity, with colorful performances from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, and other states. A gripping skit on the Pahalgam massacre and Operation Sindoor deeply moved the audience, igniting chants of “Jai Hind” and “Vande Mataram.”
The evening concluded with a stirring patriotic medley, “Jai Ho, Jai Ho,” performed by the dynamic ISC Karaoke Group. The entire auditorium resonated with voices united in song, as the Indian community in Salalah expressed their profound love and pride for their motherland.
