Low-pressure trough to impact Oman today

16 Aug 2025 Oman weather By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Oman Meteorology has issued a weather alert, warning that a low-pressure trough will affect the sultanate starting Sunday.

The condition is expected to persist for several days, bringing cloudy skies and scattered rain to South Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Dhofar and parts of Al Hajar Mountains. Localised heavy showers and thunderstorms may also occur, particularly in the mountainous areas, increasing the risk of flash floods in some wadis.

The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre is closely monitoring the situation and advised residents to follow safety guidelines, avoid driving in flooded areas and stay updated through official channels.

The meteorological office said low-pressure systems are typical for this time of the year, but residents should exercise caution as sudden heavy rains could affect road conditions and low-lying areas.

It urged fishermen and maritime operators to take necessary precautions considering the likelihood of very rough seas with wave exceeding 3.5m.
