Jack Holden glams up Peter Pan for an 80’s inspired musical

13 Aug 2025

London- Peter Pan is back in Edinburgh, searching for a new Neverland inspired by Alan Hollinghurst’s novel, The Line of Beauty.

This one-of a kind jukebox-musical was written by show writer and performer Jack Holden, a man who has already starred in other notable roles in West-End plays such as War Horse and television series such as Ten Percent.

Using his own experiences as a man in his thirties, Holden breathes new life into the character and his story. In this retelling, we follow the story of Wendy Darling, in a wedding dress running away from the altar and not quite over the lost boy she met all those years ago.

Meanwhile, our chaotic Peter Pan is all grown up, with problems he doesn’t want to face on his own. After refusing to change from his glory days in high school, he goes to “Neverland” on the eve of his 30th birthday. He reunites with Wendy and everything changes from there.

This adaptation of JM Barrie’s original story is said to include romance, comedy, drama and lots of songs from the 2000’s from pop powerhouses such as Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and many more.

Holden teases— “Neverland celebrates the carefree days of millennial youth, when the music was unironic, the jeans were skinny, and our biggest concern was who to put in our MySpace Top Eight (our version of Spotify at the time)”

After having its grand world-premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year, he aims to bring Peter Pan to the stages of Almeida in London very soon. It’s time to grab our wallets and tickets and head over to the makeshift dancefloor— Neverland is nearer than we’d think.
