Salalah Airport sees 16% rise in aircraft movement this khareef season

12 Aug 2025 Salalah airport sees 16% rise in aircraft movement during Dhofar fall 2025

Salalah – Salalah Airport reported an increase in both aircraft movement and passenger numbers during the June 21 to August 3 period, compared to the same period last year.

Data from Oman Airports showed total aircraft movement rose 16% to 1,849 flights, up from 1,592 in 2024. Passenger numbers increased 5% to 288,110, compared to 274,030 the previous year.

Flight arrivals recorded a 16% increase, from 795 in 2024 to 925 in 2025, while passenger arrivals rose 3% to 158,301. Flight departures also increased 16%, from 797 to 924, with passenger departures up 8% to 129,809.

Zakaria bin Yaqoub al Harrasi, Vice-President of Salalah Airport, anticipated the growth in a statement made in June. “Passenger numbers and flight movement are expected to increase significantly this khareef due to ongoing improvements in operations and streamlined services,” he said.

He forecast passenger traffic to exceed 900,000 this season, 37% more than 692,626 travellers in 2024. “This surge reflects the growing popularity of the khareef season in Dhofar and the expanded flight network serving the region,” Harrasi said.

Oman Airports has introduced new technologies to enhance passenger experience, including Travel Easier, which allows travellers to complete procedures from their cars. The airport also expanded lounge capacity and improved hospitality and commercial services to ensure a smooth journey for passengers.

The rise in air traffic reflects increasing demand driven by Dhofar’s seasonal rains and natural beauty, alongside its heritage, cultural and recreational attractions. Officials expect tourist activity to continue rising in the coming weeks, aligned with ongoing local events.
