Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman is participating in the global celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity today, May 22, under the theme ‘Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.’ The annual event seeks to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and promote a balanced, respectful relationship between humanity and the environment.
This occasion shines a spotlight on global efforts to protect biodiversity and ecosystems, which are essential in addressing pressing environmental, climatic, and economic challenges. Oman joins the international community in reaffirming the importance of preserving wildlife and natural habitats for current and future generations.

In line with these goals, the Environment Authority of Oman has been actively engaged in nationwide initiatives to survey and protect biodiversity. Field studies are conducted across the Sultanate’s diverse environmental habitats, supported by a comprehensive national biodiversity strategy and action plan.
Key projects include the assessment of endangered plant and animal species, environmental surveys of arthropods in different regions, and the implementation of conservation efforts for threatened wildlife. These initiatives not only reflect Oman’s deep environmental commitment but also serve as a strategic investment in long-term human, economic, and ecological well-being.

Oman’s ongoing work to protect biodiversity aligns closely with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which places environmental sustainability at the core of its national development agenda.
